Parent Zone

A partnership between parents and school is vital to the achievement of your child’s full potential. We have always had a good relationship with our parents, whom we find very supportive.

Parents are always welcome in school. They are invited to attend their children's class assemblies and various special events during the year. Parents are encouraged to take an active, informed interest in their child’s education. The school is also supported by a parents association called Friends of Townfield who organise events to raise money for special equipment etc. for your children. We welcome the help of any parents willing to assist in school with activities such as the running of the school library, helping in the classroom. Toddler Group is held every Tuesday and is led by Mrs Dixon, a member of our lunchtime staff.

Every term we hold ”Parents Council”. This is an open forum where all parents are welcome and can voice concerns; suggest ideas or initiatives for the school. It is not run by a committee, so just turn up!

Parents’ Communication

We try very hard to keep open channels of communication between home and school. These are achieved in the following ways:

Parent’s evenings – There is an opportunity to speak with your child’s class teacher every October, February and July. Your child is welcome to join you on these evenings to participate in the discussion.

Half-termly report cards – At the end of every half term you receive a report card. This gives information on how your child is achieving compared to expected national Curriculum Levels for the year group your child is in; the effort made to achieve the level of work and the attitude and behaviour displayed by your child. They help form the basis of discussion at parent’s evenings. The Foundation children have a different format to the rest of the school.

Curriculum Information – a summary of the topics being covered each term is sent home to encourage parents to support and fund information with their children.

Parent Assemblies – each class takes a special assembly to which parents are cordially invited.

Weekly letters – Every Friday a letter is sent home to keep you informed of events across the school. If your child is absent on a Friday and does not return the following Monday, the letter will be posted home. It is the onus of the parent to check they receive a letter each week.

Townfield Times – Every half term a Newsletter called ‘Townfield Times’ is produced to keep you informed of events and activities, which have taken place during the half term.

Parent’s Council – This is an open meeting for any one to attend to raise matters of concern or to suggest initiatives we may wish to consider. If a parent is unable or does not wish to attend, ideas/complaints can be sent via another parent or through the suggestions slip at the end of a weekly letter. There is often a focus to help discussions at these meetings.

Parent Governors – These Governors are elected by parents of the school. They are your voice on the Governing Body. A parent governor may be contacted through the school.

Parent Information Evenings – every term meetings are held to keep parents up to date on curriculum developments.

Annual Report to Parents – This meeting is held during the Autumn Term. The Governing Body reports on events of the year.

Friends of Townfield – Meetings are held for fund raising activities. All parents welcome.

Parents Evenings and Reports

Open evenings are arranged every term for parents. These are individual appointments when parents may see their child's work and talk to the class teacher. In addition, parents who are concerned about their children are very welcome to discuss any matter with the Mrs Lee and Staff at any time. Please contact the school to make an appointment. Parents are given a written report in July, and the opportunity to discuss it with the teacher at the summer term parents’ meetings. In addition to this a half termly progress/report card is sent home for you to sign and make any comment, to keep you regularly informed of your child’s progress and behaviour.

We also have a programme of parent workshops to try and help parents keep up with today’s education system.
